What is on your May Gardening to-do list? April’s showers are giving way to May flowers! Mother’s Day is a perfect time to gift mom with a gardening-related item. Instead of the usual vase of cut flowers, plan ahead and give that special person a naturally-inspired bouquet that changes with seasons. A beautiful container garden makes for a great gift.  All Russell Feed & Supply stores have a great selection of flowering plants from a high-quality grower here in North Texas— we receive new shipments every week! Our Camp Bowie West location now carries a much larger inventory of flowers and gardening supplies. You don’t need to go far for beautiful bedding plants.

Although pansies may still be looking great early in May, it’s about time to pull them and plant summer flowering plants. Once it gets hot, pansies go down fast. Annuals and perennials give you lots of color bang for your buck. Pinch back the growth of newly planted annual and perennial plants. The extra effort results in shorter, compact plants with more flowers.

Allow the foliage of daffodils and other spring-flowering bulbs to mature and yellow before removing.

After weeds begin to appear, spread an application of post-emergent for crabgrass and other weeds. Fertilize lawns with the final feeding before Summer. Fertilize roses every four to six weeks and control black spot with a systemic fungicide.

Visit us today at any of our North Texas locations. We’ll help you get your Spring and Summer garden growing!
